Day 36 - Page 36

PAGE 36 !!! Normally I would end Part 1 here, but seeing as that would make a pretty lame ending, I'm going ONE MORE PAGE and taking out a page from PART 2, (like I said in the previous post).

Anyway, lots of panels, in fact, there are 10 PANELS! A new record.

Now for...

Boy, we have not seen one of these in a while! Okay, for the shading, I have gone out of my way for. Really. It looks like two or three panels aren't shaded, (like for example the seventh panel), but actually they are. In Comic Life I cut it off, not intentionally of course.

So anyway the shading looks very very very impressive on this one.

Now for...

So, as I explained before I do coloring in Corel Painter. But there's more that I think is also important, that I should also probably tell you. When I scan in my drawings, to get them perfect for coloring, I use Brightness and Contrast a couple of times.

I put the contrast up all of the way, and I put the Brightness down all of the way. Why?
Because it strengthens the black and pumps up the white, so that the scan looks perfect for coloring.

I also use the Adjust Color, and turn the saturation down.

I do that because usually there are some reds, blues, and even yellows lying around the drawing in random places after I use Brightness and Contrast, and Adjust Color gets rid of them.

After all of that, it's perfect for coloring and shading.

Notice Zach's eye in panel seven. Horribly slanted. I don't know why that looks bad, but it does. From now on, I'm going to make sure the upper half of his eye is completely straight.

That's it!
Have fun the day after tomorrow, because the fun has only begun.

Day 20 - PAGE 20!

YAAAY! PAGE 20! Okay, so this page looks pretty good. It has the most panels of any page so far. Which is pretty cool. And, this page is a good place for... THE REVISIONS! Now, I noticed some grammatical and spelling errors, not to mention just plain rotten speech sometimes. So I changed a goodly number of things. All of these things shall be fixed in the slideshow. In fact, I'm revising the slideshow a little, so its completely up to date.

Also, around this blog I'm going to be putting up some minor revisions as well as in the comic. That aside, it's time for...

Unfortunately, in this page I do not have shading. So sorry about that, but I was really trying to pay attention to detail and I was too worn out by the end of it all that I didn't do the shading. Sorry, its my fault, and I should have done something wiser.

Nice and highly detailed! You will notice that in the second panel its sort of in a frame. That is because I did a sneaky trick which I will explain in...

Okay, here is my sneaky trick: In order to get out of redrawing the shop I only drew the open door and Lighting Bug in the second panel. Later, in Corel, I cut that part out roughly and used the Magic Wand tool to make the edges format to the shape I wanted. I then copied the colored shop from panel one, stuck it under Lightning Bug in panel two, and then colored Lightning Bug in. It was much simpler then me drawing and coloring the whole shop all over again just for the second panel. Everything else I draw again.

I have decided that BOOM!Kids is definitely the place for me to go when looking for possible publishers. Maybe it will end up in the slush pile, but maybe not. We will see.

And that is all for today! See you!

Day 4 - Page 4

Day 4 means Page 4, and thats what this is! Ah, what a nice page. For once, a different layout, which is nice. But enough of that! Its time for...

OK, heres a major technical dilemma: In the middle panel, the big one, Zach was actually too big, so I only had room to draw his head. That meant that he looked ridiculous, so I scaled his head down, copied a body from a different Zach elsewhere in the page,  and scaled the body down, and then did some tricky stuff to attach the head to the body. Then I saved it to a compressed layer format, and colored it in.

Now for...

Yay! So you will notice some very nice shading is going on. I have shade on Zach's skin color, and shading on Big Fist. Note how the background isn't shaded, but you don't really notice it until I say so.

Thats all for shading now for...

Here is the page WITHOUT balloons, captions or anything in Comic Life, just straight from Corel.

You will notice that most of the artwork has to be cut off in Comic Life.
Its probably because the lines from the "panels" in my page are in the way. Oh well, no fixing that.

Anyway, thats about all this week, we won't come to The Vision for a while and The Age Old Debate can wait for tomorrow's post. And now, I'm hungry. I didn't eat breakfast yet.

Bye for now!

Day 3 - Pages 2 and 3

Well, I'm back on the good old computer!
And guess what... Two more pages!
Yay! I bet you're glad you aren't doing this.
OK, anyway, we have our main characters' name mentioned, and we have our first little "Store Problem." Big Fist can't find his hero-statis podlink. You will notice that Big Fist's logo, "BF" can also be interpreted as "Best Friend." I probably will incorporate this into the story at some point.
Ah... The shading. How nice it looks. OK, enough of that. Now to...

OK, there were a few technical issues with these two pages. The first is, I messed up a panel.
So I had to add a panel to the other page and move up all the other panels on the page to get things even.
Also, my coloring got a little lousy on these two, mostly, I guess, cause I didn't do the Brightness and Contrast right. You will also notice Zach's eyes in the first panel of the second page look off slightly. Thats because I had to redraw one. And in the second panel of the second page, the aisle thing, (cabinet? product holder? shelf?) is completely out of perspective (Not that anything isn't!).

Now for...

OK, last time I bailed out on this one, but it has to be solved at some point, so...
Yes, I am going to have to run around like a chicken on fire after I finish this comic trying to sell to publishers. I am not well known, and I am not very old, and plus I don't have burrowing eyes and a long beard, so you can tell already nobody will be impressed by me. So the fact remains, which publisher?
Well... Maybe I'll try Tokyopop first. They do lots of graphic novels. If not I may have to try some small time, unofficial, small business that nobody knows. Hmm or BOOM!Kids maybe. I'm not sure. But what I can be sure of is that this blog is going to have 365+ posts on it after I finish. :P
OK, thats all for now. Have fun! Look out!
